Prepaid Subscription from Alibaba Cloud Marketplace

Refer to billing Overview▸, the AutoMQ Cloud BYOC edition supports annual and monthly prepaid billing methods. This article provides a detailed guide on purchasing prepaid subscription licenses through Alibaba Cloud Marketplace and using them for subsequent product activation.

The terms Cloud providers, Public Cloud providers, etc., mentioned in this article specifically refer to the underlying cloud service providers designated by the user, such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Huawei Cloud, etc.

Prerequisites

  • Complete the installation and deployment of the BYOC environment: Purchasing a subscription license is intended to activate and register the BYOC environment, so it is recommended to complete the installation of the BYOC environment in advance. Users can refer to Alibaba Cloud▸ for environment installation.

First-time Usage Process

The process of purchasing a subscription license via the cloud marketplace prepaid method and completing environment activation registration is as follows:

  • Step 1: Collect information for environment installation.

  • Step 2: Purchase subscription licenses based on the number of required AKUs.

  • Step 3: Contact AutoMQ technical support through the ticket page to complete environment registration and activation.

Step 1: Gather Environment Installation Information.

Before purchasing the subscription and activating it, it's recommended to complete the installation of the AutoMQ environment console. Log into the previously installed AutoMQ environment console -> settings page to collect information such as the installation ID.

Copy the following information:

  • Environment ID: A unique identifier for each environment to differentiate between them.

  • Ops Bucket: This environment utilizes the Ops Bucket for storing subscription authorization information that the AutoMQ backend needs to access. Refer to Set Ops Authing from Alibaba Cloud▸ to complete the authorization process.

  • Cloud Vendor Information: Specifies the cloud provider on which the current environment is deployed.

  • Region Information: Indicates the geographic region where the console for the current environment is hosted.

  • Allocated AKU Count for this Environment: AutoMQ allows the distribution of the AKU quota of a subscription license across multiple environment consoles (while ensuring the total does not exceed the subscription license quota). Thus, you can specify the allocated AKU quota for this particular environment.

  • Installation ID: A unique installation fingerprint for each environment console, used to generate product keys.

Step Two: Cloud Marketplace New Subscription License

The prepaid subscription license for AutoMQ Cloud BYOC is now available in the Alibaba Cloud Marketplace > Basic Software > Application Development category. The product name is AutoMQ for Kafka (BYOC Prepaid Subscription License). The overall usage process is illustrated in the following diagram:

  1. Alibaba Cloud users can navigate to the Cloud Marketplace and search for AutoMQ or Kafka. Locate the AutoMQ for Kafka (BYOC Prepaid Subscription License Edition) product, select the appropriate specification version and subscription period, and purchase the authorization code.
  1. It is recommended to choose the specification based on the number of AKUs required for your business, click "Buy Now," create the order, and make the payment.

If you and AutoMQ sales personnel wish to negotiate pricing and discount information, you may contact AutoMQ sales personnel to collaboratively complete the ordering process.

  1. Once your purchase is complete, navigate to the Cloud Marketplace Buyer Console and go to Purchased Services to view the authorization code information.
  1. Copy the activation code information from the details page.

Step 3: Environment Initialization and Product Activation

  1. After you've completed the information collection in Step 1 and Step 2, contact AutoMQ technical staff to register and activate the environment through the ticket page. Provide the following information in the Comments section of the ticket page:

    1. Activation Code

    2. Environment ID

    3. Operations Bucket

    4. Cloud Provider

    5. Region

    6. Environment Installation ID

    7. Pre-allocated AKU Quota

  1. Once AutoMQ technicians have completed the registration and activation of the environment, users can access the environment console to create instances.

AKU Calculation Method

In the above process, users need to estimate in advance the amount of AKU consumed by all instances in the environment and purchase a sufficient AKU quota. For details on AutoMQ Cloud BYOC edition AKU billing, refer to Billing Instructions for BYOC▸.

Example: Environment 1 is estimated to require the creation of 2 Kafka instances. The first Kafka instance is estimated to require 100 AKUs, and the second Kafka instance is estimated to require 200 AKUs. Therefore, the user should purchase at least 300 AKUs worth of subscription licenses to cover subsequent usage.

Note:

Using the subscription license model incurs costs only at the time of purchase. Subsequent use of the AutoMQ console to create instances requires only paying the cloud resource fees to cloud providers, and no further subscription fees will be charged. Subscription fees are deducted from the subscription license rights quota.

Since the subscription license is purchased in advance for a specific period, users are advised to monitor the expiration date of their subscription license and renew it in advance to avoid any disruption in usage.

Subscription License Renewal and Scaling Process

Refer to the new purchase process. If the initially purchased subscription license cannot cover the scale of resources within the environment, no new instances can be created, nor can existing instances be expanded. At this point, it is necessary to reconfigure the current subscription license.

  1. Use your cloud account to navigate to the Cloud Marketplace Buyer Console -> Purchased Services details to view the authorization code information.
  1. Click Upgrade, select the new license specifications, and pay the price difference as prompted.

  2. Refer to the initial activation process and contact AutoMQ technical staff to update the product key and reactivate it, refreshing the environment's license quota.
